I had a somewhat similar problem, on one of the laptops, where Firefox went screwy so I uninstalled it and re-downloaded it and it's never been quite right since. But that's the same laptop that got shut down wrong once in a hurry (lightning next door) and Firefox isn't the only screw loose since then. Another thing it did was rip only parts of some CD songs (they gopt shortened) and squelchy noises got added to some songs I ripped also. Then there were the audbook chapters that swapped occasional dialog phrases with other chapters-- made for pretty surreal bedtime stories (but they were pretty surreal stories to start with).

I just figure it's the personality of that particular laptop-- sort of picturesque. It also does GOOD things I would not want to give up
