Why, no...here is San Diego we modernized to the grid system many years ago. Before that, sometime in the Truman administration, it was hand-delivered by an old Hispanic guy with a bristly mustache; he would bring it in glass containers, clinking in a wire-frame carrier. I suppose they were Leyden jars or something. But most folks here don't even remember that far back.
