Stringsinger: Whenever there is a totalitarian theocracy threatening insecure people

I'm not taking a pop at you but I would like to "freeze-frame" at this point because it would be very useful to deconstruct that statement.

You are a liberal-minded poster and obviously not a BNP sympathiser so it's important to step outside of the conversation for a moment and ask yourself why you might feel that Islam, or Muslims, constitute an organised institution (such as a totalitarian theocracy) that might threaten people. Can you identify any evidence for that particular belief or perception?

You see it's a right-wing tactic to propagate low-level scare stories and misinformation that has exactly the effect of leading even the most decent people to believe that they know a thing to be true, when in fact it is not.

When people restate their assumptions about Muslims or Islam, they often realise that of a group of 1.2bn human beings, all the assumptions held tend to come from the constant media insinuations of Taleban, bin Laden, Abu Hamsa, Ahmedinejad and the Iranian Revolutionary council of 12 clerics.

George W. Bush invaded Iraq, with all its consequences, because God told him to (GWB actually said this to Jacques Chirac in an official, minuted meeting and you can read about it in Chirac's memoirs) but Christian's aren't painted as warmongers. 12 individual Muslims on 11/9/2001 killed one hundredth (3,000 dead) of GWB's death-toll (about 300,000 on the lowest estimates) and yet those 12 lunatics somehow managed to seal the fate of the other 1.2bn Muslims in the eyes of some observers?

In the face of a poisonous media that hungers for the extremes of all things and has no interest in normal, mundane or average, one has to be very careful about realising the difference between what one is told and what one actually *knows* to be true.
