Thread Name: Flag Poles at Festivals
Subject: RE: Flag Poles at Festivals
Personally,I'm all for it / them, and am currently looking for an Oxfordshire flag (if indeed there is one) and a Buckinghamshire flag for Karen---I believe it exists and features a swan ?? If there's no Oxon flag, I''ll be happy with a Sussex one,as I grew up there.
As to flying the things; well, they obviously could be dangerous if flown/hoisted/supported inexpertly, and did I see a lot of THAT at Towersey last week !! The problems start when either a very large flag,or several smaller ones, are put up on just one, usually unsuitable and inadequately stayed, pole, during quite windy weather----apart from the danger of falling poles, there's the irritating rustling and "cracking" from Fly ends thrashing in the wind. I see nothing wrong with,or have no objection to,a properly secured, sensibly sized county,or whatever ( but PLEASE--no Scull & Crossbones or Confederate States...So "Naff" !!) emblem, but I do think that common sense should prevail, and owners / users of tall metal poles should be given a "talking to" about both the dangers AND the users' responsibilities towards other campers. I certainly would not stand for a dangerous pole within falling distance of our 'van !!
