I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado extended cab that gets 18 to 19 mpg. It has a small 8 cyl. engine and it is more comfortable to drive or ride in than many cars. Last March we took it to North Carolina instead of our Hyundai Sonata even though the Hyundai gets better mileage. The comfort is more important on a long trip.
We recently sold the Hyundai and bought a Chevy Impala. More comfortable and the same gas mileage, average 27 local and trip.

Have you noticed that Toyota is now having call backs? They have great quality but they are not perfect.
