Subject: Lake District/Cumbrian fun September 12.
Have just had a gig set up at extremely short notice, so may I take a litle of your time to tell you about it? The Prince of Wales, Foxfield(nr Broughton-in-Furness, north of Barrow) is having a music weekend, and the Boat Band will be playing there on Saturday September 12 at 2PM. The pub has many features which would commend itself to discerning folkies. It is a great place for real ale, and has its own microbrewery. It is smack opposite a sweet litle station on the Lancaster to Barrow to Carlisle coast railway, rightly acclaimed as one of England's top train rides. It is on the Duddon estuary, and the Dudon is England's finest river, and anyone who tells you differently is either a liar or suffering from delusions. Wheteher Foxfield is in the Lake District is an interestiong question. I was talking about this to my mum the other day, and we were of the opinion that places like Millom and Foxfield were not in the Lake District, or not when we were youing anyway. Nowadays the lakes tourist industry has expanded the concept to include the whole of Cumbria, which places Foxfield firmly in the lakes. Be that as it may, you'll have a good time if you have an explore around. The celebrated fell Black Combe, beloved of Norman Nicholson and Worsdworth alike, is also only a spit away across the Duddon. Wainwright commended it as the only fell he could reckon on climbing in his carpet slippers. So recently has the gig been set up, I don't even know who else is on over the weekend. Perhaps some assiduous clever computer person could find out and provide a link, or something. So, if you live near Foxfield, or are having a weekend in the lakes, hope to see you there
