Another thing worth mentioning is that there is PLENTY of rural character here, and that it is very much a part of the tapestry of life. We are dealing with issues of growth and development, and have a unique opportunity to really look at what goes into "quality of life" issues.I spent Friday on a school field trip to a working farm that has adapted from its origins as a tobacco farm. Our school has active 4H and FFA programs.
I feel like here we have some of the best of everything - rural areas, small-town areas, but the VERY best cultural arts that a handful of world-class universities can offer! Along with the aformentioned 'native' music tradition. Plenty of that to go around!
A side note is that nearby Durham just finished hosting the American Dance Festival, which brought many dance and music traditions to our plates once again.
