Thread Name: Can newly composed song become folk song
Subject: RE: Can newly composed song become folk song
it is stereotyped by means of print or gramophone record

Hmmm. now we CAN refer to the original, but how many do?

eg1 Did John Tams write "rich... in their fine array" or "rich ... in their finery" ?

eg2 Ewen MaColl collecting his own song from a Canadian lumberjack who insisted it was old because he learned it at his granny's knee.

eg3 Mondegreens

eg4 the web, far from preserving in aspic is a morass of factoids, misplaced zeal and agenda laden lies - finding the truth (in the context of originality) is a minefield.

eg5 The folk club singers, the festival SAR and the frailty of the human cerebelum still support the aural, and oral, tradition. Of course it is not what it was............
