Thread Name: Tech: Computer Died-buy another now or next month?
Subject: Tech: Computer Died - what now?
So, my Hewlett-Packard computer was working normally, if sluggishly, last night. This morning I pushed the power button - and nothing happened. I figure it must be the power switch or the power supply that went out. I don't want to spend money on it because I was planning to buy a new computer soon after Windows 7 comes out next month, because my current computer is just too sluggish. I'm planning to get the 64-bit edition of Windows 7.

So, do I go out and buy a computer tomorrow and just install the (free) Windows 7 upgrade when it comes out, or will doing the upgrade give me years of aggravation? And should I buy the high-end computer I really want, or am I better off buying a mid-price computer and figuring on getting another in two years when USB 3.0 and 802.11n and Blue-Ray burners and Windows 7 Service Pack 2 are in place and stable?

I suppose if it's better for me to wait the month, I can do it. I can get a case to make my hard drives portable, and hook them to my laptop to access my data. I have an important project to do the week before Windows 7 comes out, and I don't think I can do it on my laptop - so that's a bit of a problem.

Any advice?
