I don't necessarily know if the subject of "The Road" is worthwhile or not, Alice. I was just making a general point about what would draw me to any book or any movie, that's all.

I did not feel that the subject of "No Country For Old Men" was worthwhile after having seen the movie....though I would say that in some respects it was quite a well-made film in the technical sense. I could have better done without watching it though...my overall feeling at the end was that I had wasted a couple of hours of my life watching a stylyish, sadistic, and depressing snuff film with no valid point in it whatsoever.
