There's is one practice that I have not seen discussed here.

with HDs being so relatively inexpensive, [at least in the US]
I suggest [GHOSTING or IMAGING], copying the ENTIRE master hard drive to a second HD. I first did that some 8-10 years ago.

CompUSA has a 500 GIG Hd for $60.00 this week. A 1T is about $100.
