I agree that what Gore was trying to do was wrong, and it was also stupid. However, the pattern of disenfranchisement that the Republicans have been engaging in makes anything done by the Democrats pale in comparison. And the Republicans are still at it, as we can see with this smear campaign they're waging against ACORN in anticipation of the 2010 election.
