I loved those old cotton gloves too. Wore my mom's until they fell dissolved. They were perfect when I had bouts of poison ivy and eczema on my hands.   

I think you can still get the good quality, well fitted ones for working with delicate documents and items in museums and archives. Conservation or researchers gloves.
