It was the back side of "Big Bad John". That was one of my first favorite country records; back when country used to sneak on the pop charts. Songs like "Wolvertine Mountain", "The Race is On" (Jack Jones covering George Jones), "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry" (Hank Williams covered by BJ Thomas), "The Battle of New Orleans" & "North to Alaska" (Johnny Horton) and "Abilene" (written by the late great Bob Gibson)all found there way to the rock and roll radio before play lists became so da*ned programmed and predictable and boring. You could here the "real versions" on WJJD here in Chicago, but you risked being called a "hillbilly". It was well worth it.
