When Rawhide shot locations in the California foothills outside of Sonora, my dad happened to be calling on accounts in the same area. After he'd watched from the roadside for a while, Dad was invited to stand with the actors off camera. Long story short, Clint Eastwood had a long break and showed Dad around, explaining how shots were set up, introducing him to other actors and stuntmen, and playing the host. Eventually Dad joined the production company for a few after pops after work, and had a long and happy conversation with Eric Fleming. Dad spent another day on the set, and remembers those as two of the happiest days of his life.
