This is not a new phenomenon; there were huge waves of very angry mob-think rhetoric when people spoke out against his predecessor, as I recall. It was his (Bush 2) administration that cvame up with the Orwellian concept of herding demonstrators into "free speech zones" where their demonstrations would not demonstrate and would not be detected at the events they were demonstrating against.
