If, as you assert, Mr Polanski was conned--and I'm not sure that assertion is even correct--he should have stayed and appealed to have the conviction and/or the accompanying sentence. If he truly is the victim of injustice, as he asserts, let him prove it in a California court of law. If he cannot, he should be sentenced for statutory rape and serve whatever sentence is deemed appropriate.
