We bought a used sofa that had really bad dog smell in the cushions (we didn't find out until after we got it home). We used a product that uses enzymes to get rid of odors. It worked very well, and the sofa hasn't smelled bad to any noticeable degree since we used it. Here's a google search on that kind of product...
