I don't think you can get rid of the smell without finding the source of the smell. If it's in the wood and you treat the wood, that's it. If it is behind something, and festering, you gotta get to it. The question is, what's it worth to you? Going to pry up stuff or not? In the meantime, see if you've got a nearby CSI with some sniff experts.
