I'd also recheck the crawl space, poking around with a stick. Could be that the cat used the crawl space for its "personal needs" -- or had friends that did so. Poke the stick into the soil and sniff the end. Do this in several places in a logical pattern.

If it's a dead body it's up to the police to get it out.
