The Institute of Medicine, one of the United States National Academies, provides advice to the U. S. Government and its agencies. A review by that body of thimerosal, the preservative containing mercury, found no evidence that it contributed to autism, attention deficit disorder or Alzheimers disease.
The warning comes from a University of Calgary study of mercury neurological damage. The study is preliminary and in part controversial. The Influenza health consultant says that studies have shown the safety of the shots and that benefits far outweigh any potential risks.
A flu shot contains 0.01% of thimerosal; the actual amount of mercury is a very small fraction of that.
