Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming
I was able to drag Marge back to a Getaway this year and she rues the fact that she missed the last two. The weather was fabulous! The new dining hall was quite impressive and comfortable to be in. It has terrible acoustics turning background conversation into a "dull roar". I don't know if it was just me, but I kept thinking I heard people singing in the hall during meal time.

I played "Breakfast Blues" at the Saturday night concert. I asked LEJ to join. We did not do anything like practice. We did check that we were going to kick it off in the same key. LEJ plays a fine sounding harp, but to put the icing on the cake, he listens to what is happening in the song and follows along. Marge said it was the best version of "BB" she's heard (and she hates the song).

I am always amazed at the new people who show up. Richard sang wonderfully the multiple times I heard them. Steve Cormier discussed the evolution of "Home on the Range" and "Yellow Rose of Texas". I knew some of the story, but he added more history to both. The folk process does not always result in positive changes.

There were too many workshops to attend (I even missed the Parody Workshop for the first time ever).

And there were so many old friends. It is amazing how you step into a special place where you have not been for a year and feel somehow like you never left it.

My thanks to all of the FSGW for their Getaway creation.
