There seems to also be a fair amount buried under the martian surface at areas surprisingly far from the poles. On the other hand, the low air pressure, reduced sunlight for electrical power, and lack of a strong magnetic field may give explorers many of the disadvantages of a lunar base, but with few of the advantages one might expect from a larger planet.
