Nearly all cars sold in Alberta and Saskatchewan and NWT are fitted with block heaters; including the FJ. Not ever having experience with them, I only know what I have read. Problems included windshield cracking in winter, cold interior, poor access for rear seat passengers. On the other hand, I don't know anyone (several people I know have them as a second car) with complaints about Toyota RAV models, made by the same company.

Toyota's losses are cited in all financial articles; the figures came out last week. Don't take my word; read the news and you shall learn.
