Eleven year old pickup? My Cherokee is fourteen year old and still good. Your pickup should last a few more years.
Most cars, if taken care of with regular maintenance, last 15-20 years without requiring criplingly expensive repair. Having the rear seals replaced and key lock assembly replaced have been my major expenses. I had a 1980 pickup that I gave to a son with a country place and he is still using it to haul his garbage and for similar tasks.
Curious, I looked up the Hummer on U. S. govt. figures. the 5 cyl, 3.7 litre rates 14 City, 18 Hwy; the 8 cyl, 5.3 litre rates 13 City, 13 Hwy. I see a lot of pickups here have the 5.3 l motor; don't know why they are popular. The Ford Explorer F-150 pickup with 4.6 l engine gets 14 City, 19 Hwy; I see them fairly often too.
I agree, no sense in replacing a good older vehicle with a new one, hybrid or not. It takes a lot of materials and energy to build a car.
