Oh dear!! The Queensland Records Department got back to me at last.
The occupation is "Vocalist".
I did think of that -- right off -- but I couldn't imagine how you could get Vasalier from Vocalist. Even with the worst handwriting.
Anyway sadly, it's not one last joke.
