I had a CD player which ran for years that way, you just needed to lift the front right corner about 1 cm, then release it sharply. It seldom worked without.
I like the story of the owner of a machine, who queried an engineer's bill;
"£50 for just coming here and tapping the machine once with a hammer, which I could have done myself! It's a rip off!"
