I'm coming somewhat late to this debate, but I have to say that I get an uncomfortable shiver down the back of my neck when I read phrases such as Mr. Bauman's. What is the "true folk spirit"?If people try to impose their own definition of what it means to be something onto others, I personally think we're getting into the realm of the "thought police".
Anyway, that's one of the reasons I don't like listening to discussions between members of the religious right. I'm uncomfortable with listening to people trying to out-do each other with their riteousness. I have as little interest in folkier-than-thou discussions as I do in holier-than-thou discussions. Flip sides of the same coin.
Respectfully, Carol
