Thread Name: Lyr Req: Stealing the Blues / Steelin' the Blues
Subject: Lyr Add: STEELIN' THE BLUES (Jerry Byrd)
It's a western swing tune with a pun for a title, referring to the steel guitar, which features prominently in recordings, hence the odd spelling. I suppose your audience wouldn't have to know that—if you don't have a steel guitar in your band, just call it STEALIN' THE BLUES and play it anyhow.

I transcribed these lyrics from a few sound samples, so they might be incomplete:

STEELIN' THE BLUES
Jerry Byrd
Acuff-Rose, 1949.

I'm in an awful mess o' trouble
Got my picture in the news
I've been hidin' from policemen
For stealin' the blues

Been slippin' round a lot o' corners
Wearin' down a pair o' shoes
Gonna wind up in the jailhouse
For stealin' the blues

[Recorded by Jerry Byrd & the String Dusters, and by Chuck Foreman & Eddie Cochran.]
