Subject: RE: BS: Templar Treasure Tunnels Found
There was a large Templar presence in Yorkshire, especially around the area of East Yorkshire where I live, as is shown by village names such as Temple Hirst and Temple Newsham. The now tiny village of Faxfleet, on the banks of the Humber, was once a major Templar port that was, at the time, bigger than Hull.

It is inevitable that legends should have grown up because, at the time of their suppression, they had vast wealth and acted as international bankers to monarchs and countries and, when they were suppressed, this wealth vanished overnight along with property deeds and the whole of the Templar fleet.

There is relatively little evidence left of their existence, except in the place names and the presence of the distinctive Templar cross on churches, some of which were built with on a circular plan.

I have heard of rumours that some kind of Templar organisation still exists in the area where I live and that there a clues to the whereabouts of the treasure built into the landscape but I've never come across any evidence of this nor, as far as I'm aware, have other researchers who have done detailed investigations.

There is, however, a effigy of a supposed Knight Templar in Kirby Fleetham church, so maybe Banjiman knows something we don't!!!!!

Anyone who wants more info. can read 'The Knights Templar in Yorkshire' by Diane Holloway and Trish Colton.
