Regarding the coyote question, the eastern coyote has been shown to be a hybrid of the western coyote and eastern wolf and weighs around 50 lbs. Coyotes usually hunt in pairs. I heard an animal behaviourist on the radio today saying that this kind of attack on humans is extremely rare and that it was very likely that these were young and practicing their hunting skills or were sick.
