Subject: RE: BS: Templar Treasure Tunnels Found
Back in the mists of antiquity (late 1940s when I was in high school), I ran across a mass-market paperback entitled "Doubloons!" Can't remember the author's name. It had a dozen or so accounts of myths and actualities about buried treasure. Quite well researched and strove to stick to the facts rather than tout the myths. Fascinating little book!

One of the sections dealt with the Oak Island "treasure pit." It went through the various theories of who might have put it there (didn't mention the Knights Templars; that idea seems to be a "Johnnie come lately"). Among other things, it said that one of the drill bits came up with a big clod of mud stuck to it, and the clod contained a small bit of gold chain. An archeologist examined it and maintained that it was a bit of Norse jewelry. Viking treasure? Maybe been there since before Columbus?

Hmm. . . ?
