Bradfordian-

It is sad that this major remnant of the the Great Era of Commercial Sail appears doomed. I have been following her recent history for the last decade and no group appears to have the organizational skills and resources to rebuild her.

In contrast the Australians did a great job rescuing the James Craig from the mudflats of Tasmania, bringing her back to Sydney and completely rebuilding her; they even sail her every two weeks!

Our State of Maine also has an abysmal record of preserving its nautical heritage. There are no surviving example of the hundreds of huge cargo schooners that were built here in the 19th century and voyaged up and down the East Coast, and even across the Great Pond to Europe. The last two hulks were dragged out of the harbor and off to the town dump in Wiscasset just 5 years ago, only the tourist post cards attest to their existence.
