I suspect the pronunciation is in keeping with the dialect spoken in the mountains of southwest Virginia. Deef could be used in place of deaf, and cheer instead of chair and a long "e" sound often substituted for "ia" and sometimes for an "i". Having seen all this in print makes me wonder if "sic him" might not have originated from "seek him".
