I think there is a good chance most devout folkies missed Peggy Seeger being interviewed by Saun Rafferty on BBC Radio 3, 4th Nov around 6.00pm. They'd probably be anywhere else but Radio 3. Anyone interested can "Listen Again" for the next six days. Folk on Radio 3 - what's going off? She was preceded by a play through of Vaughan William's orchestral piece "Running Set" which utilise a medley of folk dance tunes. Actually, I have noticed that occurrences of folk and related material on the BBC are increasing or at least creeping up. Setting aside the Transatlantic Sessions, I cite recent broadcasts, The Burl Ives Story, Mike Seeger's obituary, and more recently, Appalachian Routes and this latest. There are probably more instances. Do we detect a modest awakening to the value of a national heritage and resource or am I just fantasizing.
