Gold is one of the most biocompatible material in dentistry. It does not degrade in the mouth. Because gold expands and contracts at the same rate as the natural toot, there is no stress the remaining tooth structure. A gold restoration can fit precisely within the tooth. It is used in crowns and bridges.

The good news, I have three bridges (each with about just under half an oz) and four crowns. With the increased price of gold, the value has shot up. The bad news is the funeral director will likely see the profit some day.
