Thread Name: Tech: Mudcat Google Friend Connect Experiment
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat Google Friend Connect Experiment
So far this Friend Connect site seems to be working, but it connects up with so much other stuff that, while you're there, click on your Google account and look at the "Dashboard" that Google put up so people can see what has been collected about them. You can edit or delete if you feel the need.

I have a thought about some of this connectedness, though. I'm seeing Mudcat items turning up on Twitter, links back to threads. They aren't music threads, they're discussions about tech and obits and such. I just wonder how people are choosing that these are the threads they want to run on Twitter? Why are these are being shared on Twitter at all? Is the person posting the most recent post also a Twitter member and deciding to share, or is it just someone hitting the orange button to see what happens? I think threads could be shared even with no new contents. And when these Twitter hits bring people to Mudcat via a lateral process, not through the home page or the forum home page, how on earth are they to know what our rules are for posting at Mudcat? I forsee a lot of oddball posts, but I also wonder, with the bots that crawl through Twitter looking for places to park spam, is this opening up a lot of our threads to more of that junk? Are the clones keeping track of this kind of thing?

Just asking--it's an interesting idea, but it is tending to open things more to the great unwashed. ;-D
