I met Fred through Brother Frederick Douglas Kirkpatrick (Brother Kirk) in 1979. What a shock when Pete told me Fred had died! As previously indicated by others Fred had an open heart and a kind soul. His performed story about "cottage cheese" was so very funny to me, also! He was part of what's best about the folk music community: a guy with real intelligence who nevertheless enjoyed communicating with everyone!
