Experiences in recent years has shown us that English acts tend to draw a lower audience. That doesn't mean to say that we don't or won't book them.

Next week, we have Steve Tilston who will attract a reasonably sized audience but it won't be anything like he deserves...unfortunately.

We've had some of the acts you mentioned and would obviously be quite favourable towards the others. However, many of them don't tour up this neck of the woods that frequently and it can be expensive to bring them up for a "one off gig".

There are obvious exceptions to this, of course. Established acts such as Vin Garbutt, The Carthys, Alan Taylor and so on never fail to get big crowds.

It wasn't always the case. In the seventies and eighties, acts from South of the Border were very popular up here and many people wondered if EFC actually stood for The English Folk Club.   :-)
