In the UK we have Nick Ross, he presents Crimewatch which publicises difficult crime cases & re-creates some scenarios. His co-presenter was murdered by an "alledged" unkown person, for no known reason, on her doorstep.

He was on a genealogy programme and traced his adopted parents family tree. As he said, they were such wonderful parents he never wanted to trace his birth parents. Maybe he knew too much to want to trace the birth parents. There are success stories. And horror stories.
