Afghanistan and Iraq are invasions that have been out-sourced by mercenary private contractors which are more prevalent than actual US military personnel.

Bush re-branded the "wars" as Naomi Klein has so ably demonstrated.

Obama has to pick up the pieces. He is questioning the US role there but is receiving opposition from the idiocrats in congress, private sector, media and elsewhere.

In the meantime, McChrystal and Petraeus are getting too much air time. Theirs is the road to disaster. (Think Vietnam).
