My wise friend Dani told me, when I first signed up for facebook, to simply go into my settings and disallow (or not allow, or something like that) all the applications.

I messed around for a little while with trying to allow some, then ended up dumping all of them. If I click on anything and a window pops up saying I have to allow an application to see it or respond, I decide to just not go there.

I'm not on facebook much, but it does have it's uses - especially once i figured out that I could use it without it using me.
