The recording I have is by Theron Hale and Daughters on Ragtime 2, The Country, RBF18 released in 1971, probably recorded c. 1930 and also on Nashville Early String Bands on County 542. Unfortunately, my notes for RBF18 are missing, but I would assume from the title that Theron Hale wrote or at least adapted it. He and his daughters were early Grand Ole Opry performers if I remember correctly. I will try to think to check into this further. It's the sort of thing that's always handy to know!
Folk Music on Recordings also lists versions by Ron Kane and Skip Gorman, Debby McClatchy, and John McCutcheon. It also gives as a related title, Laughing Rag by Sam Moore and recorded by Roy Smeck and R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders.
