The question obviously becomes: to what extent has the political environment changed since 2007?

If I were President Obama I'd make the path to citizenship for illegal immigrants a top priority after the economy and health care. It's the right thing to do. Also, he has an opportunity to anchor the burgeoning Hispanic vote in his column--and it will outflank any attempt by conservatives to use a conservative stance on other social issues to eat into his Hispanic support.
