Very sad news. I haven't watched The Street on a regular basis for a while, but when I have I've always appreciated Maggie's performances.
As an actress she was one of the old school, and the character of Blanche is in the tradition of Coronation Street battleaxes going all the way back (50 years next year) to Ena Sharples.
Maggie played her to perfection and she'll be greatly missed.
