regarding the asterick..there are words in society that polite or even decent people prefer not to use and sometimes the asterick c? is more polite and shows an attempt to be civil or the person is using a word in a historical context that would not be used in polite society and wishes to show that he or she does not want to offend. I think it is a nice compromise in some situations. mg
