I also remember this song from my childhood when my mother used to sing it to me and I discovered the other day that my now 95 year old aunt used to sing it to her daughter. My mother was impressed by Paul Robeson as a singer and a human being. I also have his autograph as Mom used to be a avid theatre goer and was friends with Bebe Daniels and Ben Lyon (of radio and TV Life with the Lyons anyone remember??). She collected autographs of many of the stars she saw in those days. I think the stars were more available and quite easy to meet if you waited at the stage doors etc.    Pat K
