One of the books had a fairy tale about a wicked witch in seven league boots chasing two girls - Rose Red and Rose White. The girls hide by turning themselves into roses. But the witch sees that there is a white rose on the red rose bush. She plucks it and Rose White dies. She may come back to life later I don't remember.
