As *some* people on this thread have pointed out, *most* people on it are ignoring what I asked about: Why alcohol has inspired so many songs *in praise of it* (and often for singing while consuming it) in comparison with other popular drugs. Evidently I am almost the only one who considers that an interesting question.

I cannot imagine anyone feeling sentimental about cocaine or morphine on hearing or singing "Cocaine Lil and Morphine Sue".
