Of course the Standard is an Evening paper, unlike the others . .And IIRC when the Guardian ceased to be "Manchester Guardian" the "Manchester Guardian" continued in parallel.
As for the Torygraph . . well, I reckon it's not bad as a NEWSpaper, and its editorialising is easily recognised and so passed over. Infinitely preferable to The Times . . Actually the Time's "Read by people who run the country" is the only one of the original descriptions that I'd really challenge; that description was the pre-Murdoch times.
And on newspaper sayings, my favorite is "he's reached the age where he believes what he reads in the Daily Mail", only I'm afraid I can't remember its source.
